About
Aloha! I am a filmmaker based out of Waiau, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi specializing in storytelling with a native Hawaiian lens. My latest focus is in narrative film, telling the unique stories of our ʻāina (homeland) with a creative outlook enjoyed universally. Our moʻolelo (stories) stems from a long history of epic tales, from ancient legends to the modern day plight, as well as what we envision for our future. I hope to capture these Hawaiian concepts of culture and perspective in the artistic form of film and bring them to audiences locally and abroad, with the main purpose of allowing our people of Hawaiʻi to see themselves properly represented on screen to the rest of the world.
My background in film is I’m a graduate of the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. I worked in documentary for 10 years with Hawaiʻi’s only indigenous television station, ʻŌiwiTV, where I produced short and long-form content with clients like the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Pacific Islanders in Communications, Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, ʻAha Pūnana Leo and many others. Currently as a self-employed business owner of my production company, Kamaʻāina Creations, I’ve won several awards for my short-film Hawaiian Soul (2020), including Best Live Action Short at the Hawaiʻi international Film Festival, Māoriland Film Festival, and ImagineNative Arts+Media Festival, which qualified the film for an Oscar® nomination in 2023.
